Event Details
This 1.5-hour, synchronous virtual program will explore key considerations for working with bisexual and pansexual clients in a sex therapy context. Participants will learn about common challenges these clients may bring into therapy, debunk pervasive myths about bisexuality, reflect on their own assumptions and biases, and identify affirming clinical strategies to support bisexual clients.
The program will include a mix of lecture with PowerPoint, a case study, experiential activities, and time for personal reflection.
Course Objectives
Core Knowledge Areas: D Issues related to sexual orientation and/or gender identity: heterosexuality; issues and themes impacting lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, asexual people; gender identity and expression.
Participants will be able to identify at least two ways to make their clinical practice feel safe and affirming for bisexual clients.
Participants will be able to describe at least three ways internalized biphobia and bisexual invisibility may impact a client’s mental health, relationships, or sexual satisfaction.
This program meets the requirements of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and is approved for CE credits. These CE credits may be applied toward AASECT certification and renewal of certification.
